AN INITIAL SESSION
It is good to allow 2 hours for this session. Follow up sessions tend to take less time, as full assessment is not always necessary. The horse will need to be clean and dry.
On booking your initial session, a few details regarding your horse's health and performance history starts the ball rolling. Body work and massage requires clearance by your attending vet. With your permission this can be done for you.
A detailed assessment of conformation, is followed by an evaluation of your horse's gaits. This requires walking and trotting on a hard surface and if possible lunged in walk, trot and canter. Other exercises may be required if deemed necessary. It is helpful to see the saddle fitted and sometimes the regular rider on board.
Utilizing the above evaluations a full body work session is applied. This will use a range of massage techniques, stretching and tissue mobilization. Point therapy is also used, where areas of sensitivity are identified, which is followed by cross fibre friction technique , to reduce points with muscle spasm.
The session concludes with an individually designed working program, discussed with the owner, detailing specific exercises which will benefit muscle development. The opportunity to discuss any findings, answer any questions and demonstrate these exercises is available. The session is documented, for reference and progress checks.
